The artist is Jerry Anderson, sculptor and painter of Western, Native American, Southwest, pieces. This piece was gifted to a family member by the builder of their home, as a housewarming gift in 2003. The builder was a friend of Jerry Anderson. The home is located in Silver Reef, Utah, US, which is where Jerry Anderson lives and creates. It is approximately 29” tall including the wood base. It is in excellent condition and been in the home since it was gifted. The piece is signed, titled, and numbered. The finishing is interestingly applied. The “feathers” on the head have gold-colored tops. There is gold-colored veining throughout the statue as well as some intentionally darker areas. The family member is recently deceased so this is part of the trust estate, requiring a valuation. There should be a certificate of authenticity in the home, but it has not yet been found.
29” tall x 15” wide. Thickness is 3 to 4 inches.
Hi Deborah,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Jerry Anderson (born 1935 in Las Vegas, Nevada) is a prominent American bronze sculptor celebrated for his lifelike depictions of the American West—cowboys, horses, wildlife—and poignant figurative works. He grew up traveling the western U.S. with his father, a well driller—exposure that sparked his lifelong fascination with Western history and culture. Before focusing on sculpture, he worked as a miner and ranch hand, later running a steel business in Southern California.
His artistic training included the Famous Artists School, a Norman Rockwell–led correspondence course in commercial art and illustration. A pivotal moment occurred when he helped a young Idaho sculptor in foundry work and molding—this sparked his passion for sculpture. In 1981, he settled in Silver Reef, Utah, establishing a studio and gallery there. He continues to work and live in southern Utah.
When sold at auction, Anderson's works fetch a range between several hundred to a few thousand dollars; collectors seem to like his lifelike pieces more than they do his stylized pieces, such as yours.
Given the size of this bronze, it has a fair market value - for auction - of $800-1,200. Note this may be lower than what retail sellers (art dealers, etc) may be asking for comparable examples.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
