This picture scene is of an Asian structure which captures the outdoor, water accent with boats. It measures 36 x 36 in. within the 1 inch framing width. The composition appears to be hand sewed silk. The treads are very visible, varying width and directions throughout.. I did not locate a signiture, symbols or marks.
The origin is unknown, i believe that i obtained it from an old thrift shop nearly (20) twenty years ago. It was hung in an old shop and overly looked until recently.
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a japanese late Meiji Period late 19th century silk embroidery depicting a Pastiche or Pasticcio japanese landscape scene consisting of decorative architectural elements and trees, ponds etc. The composition is arranged in a way that it evokes a feeling of distance. Such embroideries were made for export to western countries. Unfortunately the silk has lost all its colour due to be exposed to sunlight for a long period of time. The estimate is based on similar sold at auction.
Thank You !
