I have a bed that I have been told was antique Asian bed. It’s very solid except for some of the bamboo slats have come loose and fallen off. They are all accounted for and undamaged. I would love to know more about it and its approximate value. It is aproximatly 6 ft long, 3ft wide Thank you!

Hi Christine,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This bed is most likely Southeast Asian IMyanmar (Burma), Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia or the Philippines) because beds made in China were usually made of rosewood or huanghuali and Japanese beds are much lower to the ground and use tatami mats rather than bamboo slats. It would be all but impossible to identify a maker without knowing more of the history or examining this in person.
Form the treatment of the sides, this is probably 19th Century in origin and has a fair-market value of between $200-300.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique Southeast Asian bamboo and hewn hardwood bed
probably 19th Century
Of rectangular section, the frame enclosing a platform of dozens of split bamboo rods, raised on straight turned legs. Unsigned.
6 feet long, 3 feet wide, height (probably 2 to 2-1/2 feet from the floor)
CONDITION: With some bamboo panels detached but present.
PROVENANCE: Unknown
$ 200-300*
