This small bronze is in excellent condition, with no visible damage. Mounted to a marble base, it measures 9 inches by 5 inches by 8.5 inches high, and is signed J Moigniez.

The appraised work appears to be a bronze sculpture execute by French artist Jules Moigniez (1835-1894). The sculpture depicts an exotic large bird perched on a branch. Moigniez was born in Senlis sur L'Oise and studied with Paul Comolera. He often exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1859 to 1892, submitting bronze sculptures featuring animals and figures. During his career he was widely popular in France, England and the United States. His bronzes were mostly decorative, particularly those of game birds. He also sculpted dogs, farm animals and equestrian groups. The estimate provided is based on comparables recently offered and sold at auction. The appraised work's size, composition, medium and condition (based on images provided), as well as the artist's current auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate.
