It’s brass it’s 22 inches long, the base unscrews and it has a handle that goes up and down that makes the candle go up and down. I’m sure it’s solid brass. It’s heavy at least 5-6 pounds of brass.
It was given to me by a relative who passed
Dear Amber,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a candlestick with the measurements of 22 inches height. This candlestick was made out of brass and has an unusual hight stand. We have a mechanism to control the height of the candle. Such a candlestick is typical for the middle and second half of the 19th century. Pieces like this with this simple and functional design were used over the decades. This piece could be British or made in the USA. Sadly we don't see a hallmark or similar stamp to identify the maker.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 30 to 60 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
