The brass statue is approximately 10 inches tall and 6 inches wide. There are small emeralds and rubies in the Buddha’s head band. His eyes are open and his left hand is resting in his lap and the right resting at his side.
It was a gift from our friend Vehlu who worked for us and he was head of his village in Bangalore India in 1973.
Thank you for contacting Mearto. This is a brass seated Buddha sculpture from India. The jewels in the headband are likely pigmented glass. This material is often used in Thai brass sculptures as well. The piece is probably from the 20th or perhaps 19th century. It is unusual to see the imprint method of the “hair” (snails, from a story) on this piece; usually the coils are raised.
