From what ive found out, this seems to be a 1850s british infantry office sword, made by Henry Wilkinson. It seems to be Queen Victoria’s cypher on the guard. There does not appear to be any numbers written along the spine of the blade, which might make it one of the rare un-numbered series of swords.
This was my great grandfathers sword, he was norwegian. I do not know where he got it from.
Dear Thomas,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My sincere apologies for the huge delay with the appraisal
The presented object appears to be a British pattern 1845 infantry officer's sword with a scabbard. The blade is marked by the famous producer Henry Wilkinson indicated by the proof stamp. The handguard shows the initials VR which means "Victoria Rex". This dates this officer's sword into the middle or second half of the 19th century.
