What does this mean?

Dear Andrew,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

Based on the information and images you provided, this item is:

A Chinese Bronze sculpture depicting the Gansu Flying Horse known as the Flying Horse of the Han Dynasty. This bronze sculpture meticulously captures the dynamic energy of a galloping horse, a symbol of strength, speed, and prosperity in Chinese culture.

The sculpture is likely a reproduction of the famous Gansu Flying Horse, an iconic artifact from the Eastern Han period (25–220 CE) discovered in the Gansu province. Known for its remarkable sense of movement, the bronze horse in this sculpture is frozen mid-stride, its mane flowing and tail lifted, creating a sense of perpetual motion. The details, such as the intricately rendered saddle and harness, showcase the artisan's skill and commitment to realism.

The choice of bronze as the medium pays homage to a longstanding tradition in Chinese art, where bronze sculptures were highly prized for their durability and symbolic significance. The patina on the surface of the sculpture may add depth to the details, giving the impression of aging.
