We’ve had this table vase for about 30 years. We originally acquired it from someone who traveled to China for business, purchased it there, and had it shipped back to the U.S. It appears they had the inside hand-painted to enhance its appearance, since they were using it as a base for a glass-top table. It is in very good shape with no chips, defects, fading or peeling.
20.5 inches across and 17.5" high
Hello, this item is a Chinese porcelain fishbowl planter produced in the late twentieth century for the export market. The decoration shows dense famille rose style floral motifs with auspicious bats and border patterns that follow standard workshop templates from Guangdong and Jingdezhen factories active from the 1970s to the 1990s. The body shape, glaze quality, overglaze palette, and the smooth interior painting confirm a modern decorative piece rather than an antique Qing period jardiniere. The stand is a carved wood export stand from the same period and the glass top simply turns the piece into a functional table.
The valuation falls under the decorative market for large export fishbowls of this period. The condition is good and the diameter of about 20.5 inches places it within the desirable large size category. Recent sales of similar modern Chinese fishbowls with stands fall between 150 and 300 USD for the planter alone and 75 to 150 USD for the stand. As a combined table setup with glass top the full market value ranges between 250 and 450 USD.
