- Vase feat: 2 x 'Sirens' or Naked Lady Figures reclining on rock around the top of the vase - Bronze cast - 30cm WIdth x 25 cm Height - very heavy - I have found online a couple of identical vases ...one Gold/Gilded vesion which sold at Christies (NY) and another (with same wethered look as mine) avaialble from a European dealer. They both accredit theirs to Leopold Savine circa. 1902 but the very, very worn & unclear signature on mine doesnt look at all like L.SAVINE ...more like : KemArt . Would really love to know its true maker /origin and value if at all possible?
From a deceased estate auction (a genuine estate item I think?!!) ...considerable amount of dirt and leaves inside with dirt/dust all in the grooves outside. It did really look like it had been sitting around in someones shed or garden.
Dear Leon,
Thank you for your request. Please add more detailed and focused images. Thanks.
With best regards,
Georg
Dear Leon,
Thank you for the additional images and your patience. The apprised object is a painting made in a vase cast out of bronze with the measurements of 30cm width and 25 cm height. The vase is decorated with a lying nude which adapt to the round shape of the vase itself. The design of this vase was made by the famous artist Léopold SAVINE (1861-1934), but this is a later recast made in the 20th century. Neither the details of the bronze nor the typography of the letters fit the elaborated wors of Léopold Savine.
The surface of this piece is in a corrodet condition by the weather and the positioning outside in a garden.
An estimation would be between 150 to 350 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With best regards,
Georg
Hello Georg
Thankyou very much for your appraisal. Georg I really like it regardless but I understaand basically it is a modern (-ish) reproduction ! You mentioned 'later recast in the 20th Century' and that the estimation was ' based on actual recorded auction sales' ...are you able to possibly provide me with a rough recasting date & the actual manufacturer's name which is engraved (illegible to me! ) on the side of the vase?
Dear Leon,
It’s probably a cast made in Asia. Asian workshops mostly in China and Thailand copy the French bronzes from the 19th or 20th century. This modern but decorative bronzes appear on the auction market.
With best regards,
Georg
Hello Georg
Ok I understand. My final question ...it looks like bronze ..so it could be still Bronze yes?
Thanks again
Leon
Hello Leon,
It could be highly probably bronze because of the color of the corrosion which is a hint that the most part of the alloy of the material is copper.
With best regards,
Georg
Hell Georg
