Everything I find points to Kenneth Bunn. However, I can't make out the name on the base. If I had to guess it says "Smith". Piece is bronze, in excellent condition with a very nice patina. It's piece 7/10 Dated "77" I also cannot find anything on the marking by the name
Base is 9"L - 6" W - 10" high on 1.5" thick wooden base
Hi Joel,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I agree that this looks very much like the work of Kenneth Bunn, but there were other artists who made pronghorn antelope bronzes, including Geoffrey C Smith (American, b 1961) and Roger Smith (American, 20th/21st Century). It's in a fairly static pose and I've seen better modeling, leading me to think this isn't by one of the great animal sculptors of the West (and we're reading the signature wrong).
Given the fairly small size of this pronghorn bronze, and based on the auction results of comparably sized pronghorn bronzes by second- or third-tier sculptors, this would likely do well with an estimate of $700-1,000.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
Western School, 1977
"Pronghorn"
Signed SMITH, possibly by Geoffrey C Smith (American, b 1961) or Roger Smith (American, 20th/21st Century)
Edition #7 of 10
Overall height: 11-1/2 inches; height of bronze: 10 inches; length of bronze: 6 inches; length of base: 9 inches
CONDITION: this appears to be in good condition
PROVENANCE: Acquired in an online auction
$ 700-1,000*
