Bucky Dent's epic 1978 home run greeted at home plate by Roy White and Chris Chambliss. All signed.
Inherited from my grandfather when he passed.
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. Based on the photographs and description provided, the subject of this appraisal is a framed signed black and white photographic print of Bucky Dent's 1978 home run greeted at home plate by Roy White and Chris Chambliss, bearing the signatures of all three Yankees. The piece is accompanied by a COA from an unknown authenticator claiming the piece to have been purchased via "A+ Sports". Condition of the autographs and photo appears excellent.
Unfortunately, this certification provided does not pass the same level of scrutiny as would third-party authentication such as that from PSA/DNA or Beckett Authentication Services, which would more definitively establish the signatures as authentic - but with the abundance of similar items in the market, it is debatable whether the investment in such authentication would be worth pursuing as the value would not increase substantially enough to justify that investment. For purposes of this appraisal, the autographs are assumed genuine partly because the prevalence of fraudulent signatures by these athletes is arguably minimal when compared to superstars with higher signature values.
According to the current owner, the piece was acquired via inheritance. Based on retail and secondhand prices for similar signed photos with signatures of Dent, White, and Chambliss, in consideration of the factors noted, a Fair Market Value (pre-auction estimate) of this piece would be estimated at $50 to $75.
(It is noted that non-related photographs not matching the description (photos of a Ted Williams piece and a Buckner/Wilson piece) were submitted but not appraised as they did not match the description of what was to be the subject of this appraisal. If those pieces are intended to be examined, separate appraisal requests will need to be purchased.)
