Head is 18 inches tall 9 inches wide and 8 inches deep. Made out of white marble.
Found in a storage unit with a note that said it was purchased in Greece.
Dear Derek,
Its a marble Buddha head. Not made in Greece but in China. To my opinion its not very old but Marble heads must be judged by there style and wear and the last one is tricky. It largely depends on how it was preserved and if it was inside a temple or building or always outside. I believe this head was made in early to mid 20th century. Its off course handmade and polished. Bottom was never done well; its a stand. But its clear the statue is handcrafted. The market for Chinese objects is quite good. If you would like to sell I recommend an auction house with a prescription to an online platform like Invaluable, live-auctioneers or other. That way you are sure there is a good international audience for it. My appraisal wil be conditional; marble objects are quite easy to copy and style characteristics can also be copied. To be 100% sure you need to have it in your hands.
I changed browsers and got it to work. The brown on the head is Lichens. There is a small conglomerate of sand attached to the back of the head as shown in the last photo.
It will not let me add any photos and it deleted my existing photos. How do I send them?
