Kwan Yin - Goddess of Compassion . Here is link to the item on artist's website - http://www.denishapi.com/?lightbox=image1xj0. I dont have the item yet to give you size/dimensions and weight. I appreciate however your best guess on current market value . Black serpentine stone, quartz and gold streams throughout.
Denis Hapi, Canadian sculptor Just an FYI - the artist has recently passed away and his large sculptures are up for sale but the Executrix Rebecca Happy, the artist's daughter is trying to get someone to appraise and/or sell these pieces. Artist's website is http://www.denishapi.com/. You can contact Rebecca Happy at [email protected]
Thank you for submitting the item for appraisal. It appears to be a rather small Guanyin statue of abstract design, carved from black serpentine pyrite stone.
This type of stone has a low Mohs hardness and is easy to carve, as can be seen in comparable Shona sculpture from Zimbabwe. The self taught artist Denis Hapi is hardly known to the art market. There is no auction result which could give a hint on the current market value. Possibly only his patron in Cambridge would have an insight on the prices paid. You would have to list the artist on artprice and then offer one or two sculptures at public auction - and hope or encourage for the best. The estimate is based on retail prices for similar Shona sculptures.
