Cranes or herons play an important role in Chinese mythology. The crane is venerated as the prince of all feathered creatures and therefore has a legendary status. The crane embodies longevity and peace and is one of the favorite birds in chinese culture, right after the phoenix. The carving has been framed with a mirror for display.
