This is a vintage, late 20th century, 2 piece glass sculpture by American glass artist Dale Chihuly (b. 1941) from Washington State. The pieces were purchased in 1986 from the Foster White gallery in Seattle. The two piece large-sized seaform blown glass pair is done in macchia, or spotted glass, in a color tone dubbed terra rosa and with ultramarine lip, or wrap on the edge of the pieces. Chihuly is primarily known for his bowl glass receptacles and sculptures. He has painted and drawn since his school days and an automobile accident, which left him blind in one eye in 1979, was an impetus to continue his practice of 2-dimensional art which are sometimes concept based for new glass projects. His works are displayed in Institutions throughout the world and widely collected. The last appraisal in 2008 was at the very end of the height of the market before the impact of the Recession. It is not mentioned if the estimate was for insurance, which may also account for the high valuation from 2008. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
It was purchased in 1986 from Foster White gallery in Seattle. I believe it is signed. The following is from an appraisal done in 2008-
