Framed with glass. About 29.5" wide, 41.5" tall. Signed by Chihuly with name dedication to my mom, Sue Christiansen.
My parents were friends with Chihuly. Chihuly painted this for my mother, Sue Christiansen, in the 90's, and gave it to my parents.
This is a vintage, late 20th century, 1990's original painting in mixed media by American glass artist Dale Chihuly (b. 1941) from Washington State. The provenance, or history of ownership, is that this was a direct gift from the artist himself which is evidenced by the dedication "For Sue" as an integral part of the image. Chihuly is primarily known for his bowl glass receptacles and sculptures. He has painted and drawn since his school days and an automobile accident, which left him blind in one eye in 1979, was an impetus to continue his practice of 2-dimensional art which are sometimes concept based for new glass projects. His works are displayed in Institutions throughout the world and widely collected. The personalzed dedication on this will impact value, as most collectors would prefer not to have someone else's name addressed in a work. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
