We found this chair on the far back corner of a shed as we went through my parents belongings. Located on a farm in Iowa. My grandfather bought the farm in 1952, so could have been there at least that long. My brother and I had never seen it before. Our Mom was always going to auctions and picking up stuff; this may have been one of those items. It looks as though someone at some point was going to refinish it, then stopped. Most of it has it's original finish. I'm wondering if this was possibly made by taking apart a baby cradle? The curved back seems to be one piece of wood. It is a little under 27 inches high. It is 14 1/2 inches across the back. I have photos and can provide more if needed.

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to the a last quarter 19th century child´s chair, judging from the turned wood construction and the lacquer. The looks a bit odd, and the idea that it is DIY made from an old cradle is not that far fetched. But I would rather think that the chair was stored in a humid place for a while which led to the bent wood tor return to the original form. This would explain why the armrests are sloping. It is a unique and antique piece, possibly made by a talented carpenter just for a family member some 120-150 years ago. The estimate is based on similar items sold at auction. There is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the item.
