Turned & carved chair
Open back chair. Back carved and turned upright’s. Two front carved horizontal spars plain on back with 5 narrow turned spindles between. Seat removable upholstered (not original) 3 sides of seat carved with plain square back spar Back legs plain square cranked slightly at top. Chair back leans backwards slightly. Front legs are carved and turned. Mid level spar between front legs is turned looks vaguely bobbin like. The two spars between legs front to back and centre spar between these two are are again turned with a bobbin look. Overall chair colour looks Jacobean Oak colour. Bottom of front feet finished in a plain ball detail. Label on underside of seat Walter Carter’s Depository - Manchester with a number 218 handwritten All timber looks like it was turned/carved out of 2” x 2” timber
Overall height 36” Seat height 18” Seat is 18” front tapering to 16” at back
Left in house when moved in 30 yes ago.

An antique Jacobean Revival style carved oak or walnut
made or retailed by Walter Carter’s Depository, Manchester, late 19th/early 20th Century
With turned ears over a back with five turned spindles flanked by turned posts, the trapezoidal seat frame relief carved and enclosing a conforming inset floral silk(?) upholstered slip seat frame, all raised on block and reel turned legs joined by a turned H-stretcher. Underside of slip seat retaining an original label for
overall height 36 inches; seat height 18 inches; seat width 16-18 inches
CONDITION: appears to be in generally good condition with wear commensurate to age and use.
