Unsure when the garment was made. My mother in law gave it to me and stated it had been in the family for a “long time “ so don’t throw it out. The garment is made of silk with heavy gold embroidery and patterned silk inlays. The inside appears to be fine silk? In perfect condition except for fraying the underside of the sleeves .

Hello, this item is a Chinese embroidered silk jacket in a traditional informal robe style, likely made during the late Qing dynasty revival period or early 20th century, approximately 1900 to 1930. The garment shows hand embroidered gold toned silk thread decoration with floral sprays, birds, and auspicious botanical motifs on a dark satin ground, with contrasting silk borders and a pale blue silk lining. The construction methods, embroidery technique, and overall cut correspond to export quality court style garments that were commonly produced in southern China for both domestic elite use and the Western collector market during the late imperial and early Republic periods.
From a market standpoint, Chinese embroidered silk jackets from this period vary widely in value depending on condition, embroidery quality, and preservation of the silk ground. Comparable examples with strong decorative appeal and moderate wear typically sell between $400 and $1,200 USD at auction and in the textile collector market.
