What does this mean?

Dear Russell,

Your bowl is marked Daoguang ( 1821 - 1850 ) but its of later date. Marking on a lot of Chinese porcelain are rarely say something about the time of making. In many cases they were used to express quality or honour the older emperor. Your bolw has a Typical dutch 18th century ship on it used by the VOC in the 17th / 18th century. These pieces with ships ( English / Portugees or Dutch ) do exist but are very rare and expensive. Many later copy's were made for decorative purposes and / or need demand for such pieces. Bowl is hand painted and its well done. Value is still decorative but there is a market for these later bowls with ships as decoration.
