A beautiful Chinese porcelain yellow seated foo dog figure. This came in to us from an estate but unfortunately no information. I am unsure of the era, however, saw that there is a pipe on the left side of the food dog figure. Perhaps it could be an incense burner. Measures 10 inches tall and weights 2 pounds. Hoping I can count on you for more accurate information so that we can list online globally to sell.

Dear Lisa,
Your Foo dog is made in China in mid 20th century. This ware is called Sancai what means three colors. The colours are green, brown and yellowish cream. This combination of colors is used throughout the Chinese history and goes back to Tang Dynasty. Blue is sometimes also used. Basically these were the first pigments which could be used in a controlled way to colour the pottery. The foo dog is a Guardian usually for temples but also used in private homes to protect the people from bad spirits. These normally comes in pairs. I believe yours has had a brother in the past. The old one's can be very expensive but in this case the age plays a role in the pricetag.
