Thank you for contacting Mearto. This is a Chinese scroll painting of two ducks beside bamboo. The flat appearance of the bamboo may indicate that it is a print rather than an original painting. From the style of the piece and the condition of the scroll, it was probably made within the last 100 years.
On the lower left of the scroll, there are characters and a seal. Seals like this are written in archaic Chinese, indicating the name of the artist, a time period or a collector. “Seal script” is a specialized field and readable by certain scholars. I have linked to a website below, if you are interested, where you can post seals on a forum and sometimes specialists will respond.
The Chinese characters at the lower left of the work appear to read:
雨 yǔ rain
牪 yàn cattle
寫 xiě draw
麦 mài wheat
This could be the artist’s name. As a poem, it doesn't make sense. I was not able to match the name to a known artist.
On the scroll box, the characters appear to read:
竹zhú bamboo
林lín forest
鴐jiā unknown
鴦yāng female mandarin duck
中zhōng middle
堂táng hall
This may be the title of the work. I was unable to match this to any known works.
Based on sales of similar items, the Fair Market Value of this piece is between $75 and $125
