What does this mean?

Dear Ryan,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

The presented object appears to be a Chinese so-called Jian sword. This sword was made out of steel, brass, and wood and was made in the second half of the 20th century. Especially the structure and the quality of the surface of the blade are arguments for this dating. Such a sword are still produced and used for practicing Tai chi.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 30 to 60 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.

With kind regards,
Georg
