Green pottery vase, 22" high, painted chrysanthemum/dragon motif on one side in technique that appears similar to cloisonne, simple painted design on the back and top flare; Chinese (?) character on base. More likely Woolworth dynasty than Ming.
Belonged to my grandparents from at least 1946 or 1947 - my earliest memory of it - but reputedly acquired in 1920s or 30s from the estate of a friend of my grandfather, who administered the estate.
Thank you for contacting Mearto. This appears to be a Satsuma vase, probably from early 20th century Japan. Neither Ming nor Woolworth (this made me smile; I see a lot from that dynasty), but Taisho/Showa. The calligraphic character appears to be 圥/圪? It is likely the name of the artist or factory but I was unable to find any matches. The chip on the base is very minor and shouldn’t affect the price.

Thank you, Leah. I'm relieved to know I haven't been sitting on (or failed to insure) an unspeakable fortune. I'll keep your assessment and pass it along to my offspring; at least they will know more than I did when I inherited it!
Thanks so much...
