Hi Rod,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The person I emailed finally got back to me after coming back from the New Year's holiday and they said "I cannot make a conclusive determination of authenticity based on the photos. There is a good chance the coin is a replica, but I can’t say for sure."
If you want to know for certain, the best thing would be to have it authenticated by but even if it IS real/original/period, it's worth between $4,000 and $6,000 at best and you may not, ultimately, decide that it's worth having the cost of having this authenticated only to turn out to be a replica and possibly worth around 1/100th of what it would be if it were "real."
I'm sorry to have taken such a long time to get an incomplete answer for you but these things don't always resolve themselves quickly or optimally. At least now I hope I've given you some information to move forward on. If you're curious about having it authenticated, I've found this website helpful:

Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.

Thanks Rod,
I've reached out and got an "I'm away until January" automatic response so unless they see it's from me and read this while they're away (which is always possible) I may not have an answer for awhile - more as soon as I hear from them.
Have a great weekend,
Delia
Hi Rod,
I got an initial response back asking for clear high-resolution images of both sides (this coin was apparently copied often with many counterfeit examples, but initial though was it was original, pierced to be worn as jewelry, though they couldn't tell from the existing photos.
I know they're office is closed so there's no urgency on your end...only that they can't make a stab at a value without better photos.
Thanks and, if we don't communicate before this Thursday, Happy Holidays.
Delia
Thanks for these photos, Rod - I've just sent them off - I'll let you know when I hear anything!
Delia
Yes please send it to who you need to. I’m very curious to learn more on it and I guess I can wait until January. I will be waiting on pins and needles to hear back from you. Thanks again for all your help. This is an exciting coin find and my best ever. Have yourself a great day!
