Hi Rod,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This looks like a pewter 1776 CONTINENTAL $1 coin. I've found a few examples, all selling for between 4- and 6-figures. Would it be OK with you if I sent these photos to a friend, former colleague and early American coin specialist to see what he thinks the value might be? It won't cost additional money but might take some time (possibly not until January as he may be wrapping up his year soon) to get an answer back.
Thanks to confirm at your earliest convenience,
Delia
Thanks Rod,
I've reached out and got an "I'm away until January" automatic response so unless they see it's from me and read this while they're away (which is always possible) I may not have an answer for awhile - more as soon as I hear from them.
Have a great weekend,
Delia
Hi Rod,
I got an initial response back asking for clear high-resolution images of both sides (this coin was apparently copied often with many counterfeit examples, but initial though was it was original, pierced to be worn as jewelry, though they couldn't tell from the existing photos.
I know they're office is closed so there's no urgency on your end...only that they can't make a stab at a value without better photos.
Thanks and, if we don't communicate before this Thursday, Happy Holidays.
Delia
Thanks for these photos, Rod - I've just sent them off - I'll let you know when I hear anything!

Yes please send it to who you need to. I’m very curious to learn more on it and I guess I can wait until January. I will be waiting on pins and needles to hear back from you. Thanks again for all your help. This is an exciting coin find and my best ever. Have yourself a great day!
