This is a copper acroterion (?) from New York City's Woolworth building. The piece most likely dates for the construction (1913) and was purchased in the mid 1970's in New York form an architectural salvage company. I inherited it fro my Father in 1988. It was appraised at the time by Sotheby's in New York for 500.00 dollars.

Hi David,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
You're right about this being an acroterion, a decorative architectural element used to cover transitional joints. I can't speak to this having been on the Woolworth Building but have given this the benefit of the doubt and appraised it accordingly.
