Hi Tommi,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Curio cupboards are desirable because they combine display and protection, allowing collectors to showcase cherished objects while keeping them safe from dust and damage. Their glass panels maximize visibility and light, enhancing decorative appeal without overcrowding a space. Often finely crafted, curio cupboards add architectural interest and reflect changing design styles over time. They also signal refinement and intentional collecting, making them popular with decorators and collectors who value both aesthetics and the careful presentation of personal treasures.
The presence of a mirror in the cornice is a nice feature that is not present in all cabinets, though it's up to high it's not very useful to anyone but the tallest person.
While I've not found an exact match upon which to base an attribution, most mirrored oak curio cabinets of comparable vintage have been selling at auction recently for less than $500, typically in the $150-250 range.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage oak glazed and mirrored curio cabinet
unattributed maker, probably American, mid 20th Century or later
Of oval section and surmounted by a mirrored and relief carved back splash, with glazed (glass) sides and door, opening to a shelved interior, on serpentine legs.
Height: 69 inches; width: 36 inches; depth: 13 inches
CONDITION: Handle noted to be lacking and legs suggested to be loose; otherwise, this appears to be cosmetically in good condition.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$ 150-250*
