This is a French ladies writing desk called a bonheur du jour. It was given to me by my grandmother. All I can give you is detailed pictures.

Dear Dale,
Thank you for your request. The presented object is a ladies writing desk with unknown measurements. It is period furniture inspired by French rococo furniture in Louis XV style of the middle of the 18th century. The asymmetrical form of the upper part and the decoration are stylistic arguments that this desk was made in the late 19th century. The veneer and inlay work is mainly made out of nut wood.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 800 to 1600 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With best regards,
Georg
Dear Dale,
Sadly this is the actual market situation for period furniture. Also, we have to differentiate between the valuations themselves. Insurance value is for example much higher than current market value which is defined by open auction results.
With kind regards,
Georg
In 1998 it was valued at $5000.00.
