Dear David,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a painting made in oil paint on canvas with the measurements of 27 x 14 inches. The painting depicts a nude woman standing in front of a mirror and holding a turquoise-colored scarf. The motif of a woman undressing, dressing or bathing is connected with the depiction of the godess Venus since Greek antiquity. The iconography and motif of a woman looking at herself in the mirror is a motif connected with depictions of the beauty of the woman but also with the impermanence of beauty and the life itself. This painting was stylistically made around the 1920. The signature in Cyrillic letters reads "Ивановь" which would be translated Ivanov, Ivanow, or Ivanoff. Sadly no artist mentioned in reference books or auction result databases fits with the motif, style, or signature so the artist remains unidentified.
Works by this artist were recently not offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 600 to 1200 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
