great condition i believe oil
50x70
Dear Yassine Ferchichi,
Thank you for your appraisal submission. The work is a contemporary oil painting on board by Giovanni Faliero (Italian, b. 1960) completed in 1984. As the title succinctly states, "Marina" depicts docked boats and figures at shore. The scene is set in a dark palette with a sunrise or sunset coloring the sky. The work is signed "G. Faliero" to the lower left corner, and labels to the back of the frame list the title and attribution. From the images provided, the work appears to be in good condition with some discoloration to the surface and minor marks throughout. A closer examination of the work will likely reveal some craquelure due to its age. The work measures 50 x 70 cm.
Giovanni Faliero is a listed artist from Naples, Italy. His father was also an artist, and Faliero grew up in his workshop. He attended art school in Naples, but ultimately decided to leave the program to pursue his own career with plein air paintings. He paints both figural scenes and cityscapes. Despite being listed, Faliero does not have a secondary market record. There are only a handful of paintings by the artist available for purchase on commercial sites, however secondary market values are always much more conservative than retail values. For example, three paintings by the artist from the early 2000s are listed for prices between $2,500 and $5,800. Each remains unsold. Without a secondary market record, the Fair Market Value of this work will be estimated based on sales trends of Italian marina paintings, works from the late 20th century, and condition. In 2022, a stylistically similar marina painting by an Italian artist in the 20th century sold for $350; another for $200. These trends, in relation to the work's condition and retail prices, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this work between 200EUR and 500EUR.
Thank you again for your submission.
Kind regards,
Charlotte B.
