I purchased a chair years ago and still have not found the origin of the maker, I have seen similar buy an Italian American Artist early to mid-century. also was told by friends that it could be a chair that was commissioned by an architect before they finish their studies, did not know that was part of their required studies. until doing research later... it's made of metal and has an ornate leaf and bulbs on it, been painted several times. but the unique thing about it it folds in half, I do have pictures of it.
A friend that pick's and knows what I'm looking for.
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I have shown this to another appraiser, who specializes in furniture, and we are both a bit baffled by it. We haven't seen anything like it. Can you recall the name of the Italian American designer that you have seen similar examples?
Pending any further information, we can assume that this is a one-off example by an art student or amateur designer. It is a wood and metal collapsable drum chair, 20th century, with earlier wood elements. The estimate provided is for the chair as is and with unknown origins.
Kind regards,
Corey
Yes, I'm quite familiar with Harry Bertoia and have sold his pieces at auction. This chair is not in the style of Bertoia's furniture designs.
His name is, Harry Bertoia
