Just starting with this page for review. Page of old stamps starting in 1863 Italy. Need expert review
Great grandparents collected. Prices in pencil were recorded around 1932. Many stamps collected during the Great Depression when they could be purchased at a low cost.
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. Based on the photographs and information provided, the subject of this appraisal is a collection of Italian stamps from the 1860s through approximately 1900 with three stamps in cancelled, used condition and sixteen in unused but mounted condition.
Fair Market Value estimated here is based on a combination of recorded sales in stamp auctions and online price guidance, combined with asking prices for similar issues on the secondary market. The value of the stamps without postmark (the non-cancelled issues) is far higher than the postmarked issues. A pre-auction estimate of the page as-is would be $1,000 to $2,000. A couple of recommendations: it would be helpful to procure a price guide such as Scott Catalog (https://www.scottonline.com/) to research the book value of the stamps in the collection not pictured and see the range of prices for the pieces on this page.
Moreover, submission of the collection to an authentication and grading service for archival and preservation may be costly, but could prove worth the investment if the stamps are eventually put up for sale at a stamp auction. Without a close examination by a stamp expert and grading the stamps individually, it would be likely be easy to miss a rare or particularly valuable issue from this collection.
