Another version of this painting, slightly larger in size (29,5 x 24 inches or 75 x 61 cm), titled " The Major's Adventures" and from the same year 1858 sold at auction for approximately 3000 USD ten years ago. Very large canvases by this artist still sell quite well, smaller often below 1000 USD. The estimate is based on similar items sold at auction recently. Buyers tastes change a little through the years, hence the possibly disappointing estimate.
