15 1/2” x 13 3/4” painting under glass. Signed at bottom right. It looks thicker than watercolor but doesn’t look like oil.
From my great great aunt who worked at several art institutes and knew a lot of artists. She had it in her home for years and died in the 1970’s
Dear Amy,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My sincere apologies for the delay with the apprisal.
The presented object appears to be a gouache drawing on cardboard with the measurements of 15 1/2” x 13 3/4”. The paperwork depicts a view of a small village with massive stone houses and a harbor which could be in Britany and its rough Altanic coats. This gouache was signed and made by the American artist . She painted in France, Holand, Italy, and Switzerland on three trips, 1926-29.
Works by this artist were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 1.500 to 3.000 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
