Elephant Print Persian Rug
The rug is a red, elephant print that was handmade (Persian knot) in Buhara, Uzbekistan and purchased in Istanbul, Turkey in 2004. It is like new and has been in climate controlled storage since arriving in the U.S. in 2006. It is made of wool and silk. It is mostly red, but I'm not sure what type of dye was used (listed on certificate, but difficult to make out). The rug was purchased at Imperio Otomano at the Grand Bazaar while I was there for the 2004 NATO Summit.

A Hand-knotted Bukhara oriental carpet, from Uzbekistan (purchased in Istanbul, early 21st century) (4x6 inches). Senneh asymmetric pattern (knotted). Bokhara rugs are usually defined by their symmetrical patterns adorning the rug with diamond-shaped or oval motifs that repeat. The octagonal motifs are also known as an elephant’s foot and usually comes in dark blue, brown, black or ivory accents.
Bokhara rugs carry an ancient lineage, originating in the Bukhara region of modern-day Uzbekistan. Originally called “Tekke” from the Central Asian tribe Tekke, Bokhara rugs lay on the floors of palaces and grand temples, eventually giving the city its name.
