I have been approached by a distant family member with a letter said to have been written by a joined ancestor of ours in 1915. I would love to purchase it and give it out as a souvenir at a party next month. If you can assert that it appears genuine, I would purchase it through you. Of course, there’s no way to know if it’s actually my grandfather’s handwriting, but if it is determined by you to indeed be from that era I would purchase it through you Thanks in advance

Hi Brad,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Manuscripts are an interesting collecting category in that value can be tied to a fairly small number of criteria: historical importance and provenance. If a letter is by someone who is not historically important and/or has content that is not historically relevant, it likely will not be worth very much.
I have no reason to believe this letter is not as old as 1915 as it is dated.
Can you read this and tell me what it says? Who is the writer and were they historically significant? Answers to both of those questions will help me value this accurately.
Thanks,
Delia
