This is an antique, later 19th century, German bisque porcelain molded figurine of a Guardian Angel looking over two children playing outdoors. The medium is primarily bisque, which is unglazed porcelain, however the gilded elements and ruby sash are glazed. Although the gold is real, there is no longer a precious metal meltdown value as the cost to extract the gold would exceed the value of the amount extracted. The Guardian Angel theme for this figural is inspired by German Victorian era paintings of guardian angels and children; the most well-known artist being Bernhard Plockhorst (1825 - 1907). The 2272 impressed on this is the mold form 'pattern number'. Without a maker mark, the producer cannot be definitively stated. The antique bisque figurine market is currently slumped. Figurines do not sell for what they used to sell for a few decades ago and the market was further impacted by the Recession.
