Grandfather who used to collect antiques
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a 19th century antependium, an ornately embroidered textile used to decorate the front of an altar. The fragment in your possession bears the inscription " Sacre Antoni ora pro nobis" ( st. antony please pray for us). This piece of embroidered textile was used in a catholic church, and as you suggested most likely made in India. This is usually something which is done in a monastery over a longer period of time. The price for antiques relies on supply and demand, and the demand for catholic textiles is rather low at the moment while the supply is plenty.
