I have no idea who made the painting. It is over 70 years old. It has some raised painted areas.. it is in good condition.
24" x 36" not including the mating.
Hello, this item is a mid-20th century decorative painting, likely produced around the 1950s to 1970s, depicting a stylized flower cart motif. The composition, brushwork, and subject matter point toward a commercial decorative work rather than a fine art piece tied to a known artist or school. The slightly raised painted areas suggest textured application, often used in mass-produced or studio-decor works to create visual depth. The framing and matting also support a decorative interior purpose, typical of works sold through furniture or home décor retailers rather than galleries.
Condition appears stable and presentable, which helps maintain its decorative value. However, the absence of a signature, provenance, or identifiable artist limits its collectibility in the fine art market. Pieces of this type are valued primarily for aesthetic appeal rather than authorship or historical importance. Based on comparable sales, the fair market value is approximately $80 to $200 USD.
Hello Leonard, thank you for providing the additional close-up image. The marking does appear to be an artist’s signature or monogram, though it is highly stylized and difficult to read with certainty from the current photograph. At this stage, it does not immediately correspond to a widely recognized listed artist or commercially important name in auction records. Decorative works from the mid-20th century were often signed by studio artists or decorators, especially pieces produced for interior design markets, so the presence of a signature alone does not necessarily increase the value substantially.
That said, the signature does support that this was hand-painted rather than a printed reproduction, which is positive. If you would like to pursue identification further, a sharper, straight-on close-up of only the signature, taken in bright natural light and at higher resolution, may help determine whether the name can be deciphered more clearly.
Thank you
This is the best shot i could get. I think it reads Grace Grove.
Hi Leonard,
Thank you for the additional clarification. Looking again at the signature, I also read it as “Grace Grove.” Following this result under this name, it does not appear to be strong auction records or recognized catalog references associated with that name in relation to collectible fine art. The work itself still aligns most closely with a mid-20th century decorative interior painting, likely hand-painted for the home décor market. The textured paint application and overall presentation support that conclusion. The signature does reinforce that it is an original hand-painted piece rather than a print, which is a positive characteristic.
Based on the currently available information, I would maintain the previously stated fair market value range of approximately $80 to $200 USD.
This gives the name of thr artist, maybe?
