Found this specimen in Venice, Florida. It is in great condition, and has no surface damage from what I can tell. I am unsure if this is the exterior of the bivalve, or if this is the fossilized internal soft tissue. I am not a collector and don’t know very much on the matter. Judging by the weight of it, I would say it is solid material all the way through. I have never got it tested or appraised. The material seems silica based in certain areas, especially on the back part where the bivalve would hinge. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
