This is a set of 4 bone china (?) plates, each with an approximate 8.75" diameter. The plates each have a different flower on them, a crimson border, and gold trim. On the back of each plate the number "1872" or "1812" is written in gold. There are no other marks that I can see.
I paid very little for these plates on the last day of an estate sale for an antique dealer. I just bought them because I think they are pretty. The people running the sale said they think the plates may be French. I would love to have more information about them.
These are a set of antique, late 19th century, Victorian era, about 1880's, porcelain (not bone china) hand painted plates with a different flower in the center of each and with maroon glazed rims and added gilded embellishments. The 1872 would be for the mold form and not the year these were made. Without a country of origin stamp (which was required after 1892) where these were made cannot be definitively stated. They could be French, German or Austrian. Generally they would be categorizes as "Continental". The estimate is for the set of 4 altogether and is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
