Porcelain / China statue 21 inches tall
French or European type statue with makers marks
Hello Bryon,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, marks and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Painted Large Size European Style CandleStick-Figurine, dating back to the period between 1920-1940. The two reverse fish stamp underneath your piece was very commonly used in different type of potteries along Europe, mostly English used this kind of mark. But the general decoration and the colours reflects the Italian design and taste of the time. This type of colors and markings were especially used in Bassano porcelain and ceramic during the early 20th century. The writing character of the numbers and the cracked glaze also confirms this. Your piece clearly depicts a nobleman in his noble attire. The clothes and the hat can be identified as belonging to the late French Kingdom of 18th century. Many porcelain and ceramic makers adopted the tastes of that period during the early 20th century. Your piece is clearly a ceramic piece rather than porcelain. The painting quality is average and the details are superficial. We can detect two hand written naming under the piece, one of them is either a "Ç" or a "C4" while the other is an "S". Serial number of 1679 can clearly be seen. Generally in good condition without stated faults.
