There should be some marks on this to identify the silversmith = if you can find them, can you please take a photo or two and add it to this appraisal? It could impact the value significantly, and will tell me if this is sterling (.225), .800 silver or silverplate.
Also, can you send me the overall height?

The piece we are discussing is a stand alone sterling silver punch bowl created as a “Master” piece by a German silversmith in the late 1930’s in the area of Wiesbaden, Germany. It is an original piece. No additional punch bowls were made. My Dad was stationed from 1954-1958 at the Wiesbaden Air Force Base representing the US Air Force. This was discovered in the basement of a house near the Black Forest, wrapped in cloth. German clock makers told my father this is a one of a kind “Masterpiece.”
1982, we were offered $1200 US Dollars by a dealer in Mobile, Alabama, who told us, as a “stand alone” one of a kind punch bowl, it is valued at a higher piece. It has no engraved numbers located anywhere. The only engraving is on the front with the engraved H.
I look forward to hearing from you again as I know the value is higher than offered.
Phillip, before I can revise my valuation, I'll need to see additional photos showing this without the cover, what the interior looks like and what the underside of the bottom looks like. Also, the overall height and dimension across the handles is important for me.

A German Victorian Style Silver Plated Wine Cooler or Covered Punchbowl
early 20th Century
With an eagle finial over chased and domed cover, the body with two handles, gadrooned trim, monogrammed H within a chased cartouche, on a footed base. With a glass liner (unseen). Purportedly unmarked.
