German male figurine made of concrete looks like a monk in robe holding sword and book 14 inches height
From a relative from East Germany, was told it was valuable artifact
Dear Carolyn,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a cast mass of gypsum statue with the measurements of 14 inches in height. This statue was made as a cast after an original medieval statue of the 14th century. This cast was made in the 20th century. The iconography is a bit unclear. Either this is an archangel from the Last Judgements scene or a saint.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 60 to 120 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
