Dear Sydnie,
Your vases are made in China and I believe you are correct in dating them ca. 1940. They are called Famille rose vases, because rose is used in the palette. I wouldn't say these are ginger jars but just lidded jars for decorative purposes. Nice detail of the vases is that stamp on the bottom is hand painted. Vases from the republic period ( 1917 -1949 ) are sought after on the market. All comes down to quality of the painting if we talk prices of porcelain pieces of that period. Your vases are in the mid range of the quality of the painting. They are well done but the high price ranges are about the very fine painted pieces. Size is also important and they are not so big. Having said that, you have the original box with it and they come in a pair, those are great advantages. I hope you enjoy them and if you want to sell them I advice you to bring them on a good online platform like Ebay.com. If you bring them in in a local auction house be aware that they are publishing in Evaluable, Live auctioneers or Lot-Tissimo so Chinese customers can find them.
