What does this mean?

Hi Kristin,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Auction prices (fair-market values) for Onesto's works are fairly modest and, I'm sure, below your expectations but if you want to sell this at auction, it would likely not bring more than a few hundred dollars.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A vintage Gino Onesto hand-blown overlaid "sbruffi sommersi" glass vase
Made in Murano, Venice, Italy, late 20th/early 21st Century
The vase of baluster form with layered colors in the sbruffi sommersi technique depicting a metallic-colored tree against a crackled green ground. Together with CD and letter of authenticity.
12 inches high, 8 inches wide, 4 inches deep
PROVENANCE: acquired in Murano, Venice
$250-350*

Hi there, is there really not higher price for this piece, it was originally purchased for $6000 USD. It is actually quite big, may I provide you with more accurate weight, and dimensions?

Delia Mar 02, 20:40 UTC

I would be willing to perhaps go a little higher on the fair-market value (as high as $400-600) but none of Gino Onesto's pieces that have come to auction have brought more than $400 or $500. Retail pricing is always higher than fair-market (secondary market) prices...oftentimes, dealers will stick a high price tag on something with the expectation of having to lower their prices for a savvy collector or find someone who is willing to pay the high price.
Let me know if you'd like me to change the value and send more specific dimensions (weight is not necessary).
