Antique Glass with Painting. Height-188mm Width at base-134mm Width at top-85mm
Belonged to Great grandmother Edith Bentley she was born in England in 1890's, moved to Brisbane, Qld Australia early 1900's. Married after ww1to a soldier last name Bartlett. This Antique Jug gifted to me by my late Grandmother Daphne Blanche Bartlett, maiden name Hughes in 2012 after her husbands death earlier that year, she passed in 2016. I remember Edith telling me as a young child that it was valuable but I am unsure of how it came into her possession, possibly brought back from Europe after WW1 as it clearly is of Western European extraction, possibly English.
Dear Brendan,
Thank you for your request. The presented object is a glass jug with the measurements of 188 mm height. The jug has no markings or signature and has a white enamel painted decor. This decor depicts a boy in a marine costume in front of a vegetabile background. This costume was common in the late 19th and early 20th century and this also defines the date of origin this jug. This piece was probably made in one of the big glass producing centers of Europe.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 100 to 150 AUD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
