Original Hiroshige wood block prints, original hand painted subjects on silk of the same period, multiple Japanese ceramics from 1920's, mid 1800's and late 1700's, 2 jade figurines from late 1800's, and 1 large hand embroidered silk on silk approximately 8' x 4'. All in perfect condition. These items are from my grandmothers' collection from her stay in Japan and Siam for 25 years.
Hello, this item is a carved jade figure of Guanyin made in China during the mid twentieth century. The material shows light green and white coloration consistent with jadeite of commercial grade rather than the higher translucency and saturation seen in imperial quality stones. The carving style, drapery and facial features point to workshop production from the 1950s to 1970s, a period when many such sculptures were produced for export and for collectors living in East and Southeast Asia. The wooden stand is also typical of that time and does not indicate greater age. The surface finish and details confirm a modern decorative jade carving rather than an antique nineteenth century figure.
The fair market value for mid twentieth century jadeite Guanyin figures of this size usually falls between 80 and 200 USD depending on color and craftsmanship. This example shows soft color and standard carving which supports a value around 100 to 150 USD. The piece remains decorative and collectible but does not align with high end antique or fine jade categories.
