Having a marquetry decorated top rail, bergere cane back rest, barley twist uprights and front forelegs. The The Grand Rapids Bookcase & Chair Company was operated from Hastings and Grand Rapids, Michigan.The company was founded in 1911 by A. Barber after the G.R. Bookcase Company and the Barber Brothers Chair Company had merged. The company was known for Arts & Crafts type of furniture. The marquetry or inlay decorated top rail is a detail which refers to this movement, the basic barley twist construction was also made popular by Stickley brothers.
